Live music’s return could be heard quite loudly at the new Day In Day Out festival over the weekend, and your friendly neighborhood newsletter editor here was lucky enough to attend. Lauren Mayberry, the lead singer of headlining act Chvrches, put the prevailing sentiment around the fest quite simply: “It’s been a f**ing year.” And as we all know, it’s not necessarily over just yet: three acts slated to perform at the two-day fest had to bail at the last minute after testing positive for COVID-19. While this turn of events was a depressing sign of the times, it did mean that a number of local artists were tapped in as replacements, including featured Local Music Lowdown artists Sol and Tomo Nakayama.
