Lake Serene Trail Guided Hike

Help Save the Lake Serene Trail Forever

Have you always wanted to hike the Lake Serene Trail? Is the Lake Serene Trail one of your favorites? Well, now is the time to strap up your boots and join us to take in breathtaking views, fall colors, amazing waterfalls, a gorgeous lake and the huge walls of Mt Index before public access is closed for the fall, winter and spring!
Did you know that the first portion of the trail is on private property? Well, a section of this beloved trail—enjoyed by over 45,000 hikers of all ages and experience levels each year—is in imminent danger of being logged this fall. Forterra is working to raise funds to purchase the entire 190 acre property that is scheduled to be logged starting this year, destroying the integrity of one of the region’s most highly used trail. Forterra has stepped in to lead the effort to preserve this beloved trail and land. Forterra is working with the landowner to preserve and limit the timber harvest to less than half of the property, protecting the creek, and preventing logging from crossing the trail– minimizing the impact in the short term, ensuring permanent access to users and saving the land and trail in perpetuity. We must raise $275,000 before October 30th to make this happen.
Join us for a moderately paced Sunday hike to learn more about the history of the land and Forterra’s efforts to save the Lake Serene Trail as it fits into a series of critical conservation deals that weave tightly together with work to reduce sprawl by focusing growth in our cities, to protect farmland and to link economic revitalization to outdoor recreation in the corridor, called the Great Northern Corridor Campaign.
To RSVP please email Susannah Hale, [email protected] and learn more about the details of the deal at
