Matthew Weiner with Maria Semple: Adventures in Hollywood

Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner knows how to tell a good story. Now that the acclaimed television series has ended, he brings us a look at his first novel—a dark, gripping modern fable titled Heather, the Totality. Weiner is joined in conversation with Seattle’s own Maria Semple, award-winning author of Where’d You Go, Bernadette.

Semple’s written work Today Will Be Different is set to premiere as an adapted television series on HBO, mirroring Weiner’s transition from screen to page. Together, these these two veterans of serialized television come together to take us through their process, inspirations, and intentions—and explore the shifts in a writer’s mindset during the adaptation of their work.
