“Night School”: Curation · Hosted by Board and Vellum
“I don’t really understand why people are so interested in me, personally. I’m just a curator. I’m just telling people things I think are cool.” – Elise Andrew, CEO of I Fucking Love Science
We live in the age of curation. Whether it’s imagery, information, or objects of curiosity from around the world, we live in a time when more of everything of every kind is at our fingertips. Without the ability to filter what we want to see, hear and surround ourselves with, it can be overwhelming. This filtering has become an art form, and there is creativity in the way in which we “Curate” – how we choose to include one thing but not another.
Where though does curation end, and design begin? Does curation add value to the creative fields, or take away from what it means to conceptualize something unique? We will look at how the digital age has changed curation, and debate the line between curation and design.
Let’s take a look at the work of local designers such as Brian Paquette and Katie Hackworth and discuss the impact of Pinterest, Houzz, Facebook, and Instagram on the world of design.
Night School is a departure from our daily work at Board & Vellum to debate, discuss, and analyze broader topics that impact what we do. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts and ideas, please join us!
