Seattle Sewing Circle
After noticing that there were no sewing groups in Seattle, we decided to change that immediately! The Seattle Sewing Circle is open to all kinds of sewing enthusiasts who want to gather monthly to work on projects in community.
There are no restrictions on what you can work on in our first sewing circle! We just want to meet each other, get creative together, and begin to build community. Just show up as you are (with a sewing machine and your materials) and work with other sewing enthusiasts on your current projects.
In addition, this will be potluck style. I’ll bring a few snacks, but I’d love if everyone brought some food to share (even if it’s popcorn or chips!). This way, we can all contribute a bit to the circle. 🙂
There are microwaves on site if you want to heat anything up.
Make sure to bring:
• Your sewing kit
• A sewing machine
• Any fabrics or supplies you need for your project (this is totally self-driven)
• A snack item to share
• $5 (optional) for a cover fee to help support this meetup group’s existence (more details below)
Why is there an optional $5 cover for this meetup?
That’s an excellent question!
First, I am paying for this out of my own pocket, and I would love the support of our members. There are three main charges that this fee won’t cover entirely but will help with: food (I plan to spend up to $50), meetup fees ($180 per year) and venue fees.
Second, I need an accurate headcount of who will actually be there. Charging means you’re more likely to show up. Because the event is in a secured building, we need a volunteer to let you in, and this means our volunteer won’t be stuck downstairs waiting indefinitely on no-shows.
Will there be snacks and drinks?
Yes, there will be beer on tap (because WeWork is amazing like that) as well as water. I will also pick up a few snacks and I’d love if you’d bring a few too!
Should I eat a meal before I arrive?
Bring your dinner and some snacks to share, and we’ll eat and sew at the same time like the amazing multi-taskers we are!
Who will be there?
This is our first meetup, and I expect a variety of new sewing enthusiast (like myself) and veterans. All are welcome as long as you have the tools and the passion and would like to help others.
Should I bring my own sewing machine?
Yes, you’ll need to bring your own sewing machine or whatever you would like to sew with.
How do I get there?
I highly recommend taking the lightrail or a bus if you can. Traffic and parking can be hard. The location is right by the main transit hub at Westlake. If you plan to drive, use the BestParking app to find the cheapest lot in the area.
