9 CAN’T-MISS REASONS TO PARTY WITH US TONIGHT

👕 “I ❤️ 206” pins and t-shirts. Don’t just declare your devotion to this town. Wear it. Come out and gear up, ‘cause you’ll only be able to get ‘em tonight.

📸 Free headshots. Want a new LinkedIn pic? We’re not kidding. Reader Patrick Siu will be taking free professional headshots for anyone who wants ‘em, because he’s that cool, and we’re all in a giving mood.

👋 A “Break the Freeze” scavenger hunt. Did you know the so-called Seattle Freeze turns to a puddle at every Evergrey event? It’s true. And our friends at Foundation have put together a scavenger hunt to make double sure you meet some great new people.

😋 Deliciousness. Party-goers get one free beer from our hosts at Optimism Brewing, plus small bites from New Seasons Market and On Safari Foods.

📝 Aspirational live sketches. Got a couple specific ways you want to give back to the city? Jot them down on a postcard we’ll mail you later and you’ll get 1) all the good feels and 2) a live sketch of you in peak giving mode by the incomparable and Insta-famous Haley Weaver. (She’s good, y’all.)

😌 Chair massages. Right? Our friends at Intentionalist are highlighting diverse local businesses and one of them, Care Touch Therapeutic Massage, is all about the ahhhhh. Bonus: Another highlighted business, Frelard Tamales, is bringing samples.

🎨 Arts and crafts. Get the creative juices flowing by decorating your very own party hats, and even some bookmarks care of our partners at Team Read.

🙏 Help a city out. Several of our 15+ partners — who are working on everything from homelessness to education — will be accepting donations right at the party. Missed Giving Tuesday? Make it a Giving Thursday instead.

😊 Our feel-good photo booth. Don’t just pose with your new buddies. Hold up a cardboard quote bubble throwing ’em a compliment. Then share it with the world.

Can’t wait for tonight, all. Optimism Brewing, 7 to 10 p.m. Drop your RSVP here, and we’ll see you there.

NOW HERE’S WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON IN YOUR CITY

‘Why won’t Seattle claim its biggest rock star?’ Music fans, find 15 minutes for this article today, because it asks a hell of a good question. Dave Matthews has lived in Seattle since around 2001, when his wife came here to study holistic medicine. His net worth’s three times more than Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder. His kids are enrolled in our public schools. And he’s still performing, a lot, for a lot of people. “Try it,” writes Allison Williams. “Mention Dave Matthews Band anywhere in Seattle and look for the knowing cringe.” Why isn’t Seattle all over its “biggest rock star”? Put on your cargo shorts and find out. 🎸 (Seattle Met)

Yep, it’s the housing. There’s a lot of talk about how more affordable housing would fix homelessness here. But is addiction and mental health a bigger factor? Seattleite Rick Davis sent that question in over the summer to a group of local media outlets, including The Evergrey, and Daniel DeMay of Seattlepi.com is out with a pretty in-depth answer. The takeaway: There’s overwhelming evidence that a lack of affordable housing — defined as costing no more than 30 percent of a person’s income — is a major driver of homelessness in King County. Want to dig into why? Check out his piece. (Seattlepi.com)

We’re failing them. The foster care system in Washington is in real bad shape. Almost 200 foster kids spent about 1,000 nights in hotels or field offices over the last year because we had nowhere else to place them. One 7-year-old boy stayed in an adult psychiatric unit for over a month because there was nowhere else to go, and another boy, a 9 year old, couldn’t go to school regularly for six months while he bounced around hotels, foster homes, and a group home. Ross Hunter has been in charge of our child welfare system since July, and he’s asking the state for more resources to fix a horrible situation. “You have no place to live as a kid,” he said, “it breaks your heart.” 😞 (KUOW)

Want to see The Rolling Stones? They’re coming to CenturyLink Field on May 22, and tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. This’ll be the first time they rock the Emerald City in over a decade. (Seattle MetRollingStones.com)

Look who’s on The Daily Show tonight. It’s Seattle’s Lindy West. She was a writer for The Stranger back in the day. Now she’s a contributing opinion writer at The New York Times, the best-selling author of Shrill: Notes From a Loud Woman, and one of the most influential voices on feminism and pop culture. Catch it on Netflix after our party. 😉 (TheDailyShow.com)
