For the second edition of the ā€œLocal Music Lowdown,ā€ Iā€™d like to introduce yā€™all to the very talented Falon Sierra. She has released a couple of EPs that blend R&B and electric soul. Her new singleĀ Sushi / SambaĀ comes out next Friday. So be on the lookout for that.

Can you give me a brief bioā€“howā€™d you get into music? How did Sound Off! play a role in your musical career?Ā
I have been singing my whole life. I have only wanted to do this. This is the only thing I felt likeā€¦I was really good at. Music was always being played ā€™round me; my mom didnā€™t have much but music was something that we always had.

Sound Off! was awesome, it was what I felt like was my first ā€œBIGā€ thing with my own personal music. I was so proud of myself for coming in second place, what is cool is people still know me mainly from the Sound Off! competition and that really says something about the dopeness of the show and what it can do for young folx.

Why do you think Seattleā€™s music scene has always been so vibrant?
Well, I feel like itā€™s easy. If you make music you can come to a show and meet two people, chances are those two people know everyone you need to know to get on the next bill. Itā€™s very welcoming and it is an amazing community, we are all so close, we are a big family.

Favorite local venue youā€™ve played? Favorite local venue to see a show at?
My favorite venue is Neumos, itā€™s just my spot. I am always on the hill so whenever I can book Neumos I get really excited. I also like low key house shows, the vibe is super chill and the music is always good.

How would you describe your sound? Who are some of your influences?
Iā€™d describe my sound as New Wave / R&B / Electronic / Soul / Eclectic typeness.

My influences range from Amy Winehouse, Jazmine Sullivan, India Arie, Jill Scott and Lianne La Havas to KAYTRANADA, James Blake, ABRA, Katy B, Robyn and Kelela.

Your songĀ Mr. PrezĀ seems especially timely right now with the renewed energy that the Black Lives Matter movement has had. Can you talk through writing that song?
Well, I remember that I wrote it right around the time Trump got elected. I remember there was a storm outside and I also remember the Syrian bombings on the news as well. I was like ā€œTHE FU**ING WORLD IS GONNA END!!!!ā€ When I sat down on my laptop the words just started to flow and the song was born.Ā  But youā€™re right, the song is STILL relevant todayā€¦unfortunately.

COVID has stopped all live music for the foreseeable future, do you have any ideas or plans for what these next few months might look like for you? Are you working on anything?
Well, itā€™s all up in the air for sure. I am tryna just take it day by day. I do music because I love it and times like this when you sort of have nothingā€¦that is when you realize why you do what you love.

Life is short and I canā€™t breathe unless I make music and sing, even if I can only sing to myself these days ha-ha. BUT I am performing Mr. Prez at the Central Districtā€™s Umoja Parade March on August 1st at Jimi Hendrix Park. The event is 1-9 pm. This is my first step up on the stage since March so I am stoked.

Favorite song from a Seattle area artist OR about Seattle/the PNW?
I love Greg Cyphers new EPĀ HomebassĀ and specifically his song ā€œSPACCCEEEEEEā€ & ā€œOMGā€ is on repeat! So isĀ Malcolm Rebelsā€˜ ā€œBring it outā€ & ā€œHustlerā€™s Anthemā€ (Rest in Paradise)

Anything else youā€™d like to add/promote?
Well, I have a new song coming out August 7th. This song is sort of a ā€œletā€™s pretend we arenā€™t in quarantine and that we are in the club,ā€ type of vibe. Lol. The song is calledĀ Sushi / SambaĀ and it is produced by the amazing Luna God.
