Cool it, Rainier 🏔

KEEP THOSE COLORFUL PICS ROLLING IN 🌈

Dozens of you have been flooding our Instagram feed with color this month — a much-needed relief from these dreary skies. For our November photo challenge, you’ve taken us on trips to Pike Place Market and the museum, walks with your freakin’ adorable dogs, and even shared your most colorful lunches with us.

Haven’t snapped a pic for the Pop of Color Challenge yet? Don’t worry, there’s still time. You have until 5 p.m. today to submit photos taken this month in Washington State using the #EvergreyChallenge hashtag.

We’ll share our five favorite pictures and repost them with credit tomorrow. Once those are up, y’all can vote for your favorite by clicking the “like” ❤️ button. Whoever gets the most likes by Monday, Nov. 20 at noon will be our winner.

Thanks for helping brighten our days, all.

NOW HERE’S WHAT’S GOING ON IN YOUR CITY ⛴

Don’t be that car. Apparently, there’s a right way and a wrong way to drive your car off a Washington State Ferry boat. And the wrong way involves turning your car’s engine on too early. “It’s a rookie move,” writes KING’s Anne Erickson. “Instead, wait until the guy in front of you turns his car on AND MOVES FORWARD.” Aye-aye, cap’n. (KING 5)

Parking spaces over people? There aren’t a lot of affordable places to live in the city, and that’s created tension everywhere. Even at church. University Unitarian Church up in Ravenna just decided to tear down three cottages where 10 formerly homeless people have been living for years so it can build a parking lot. One woman who lives there, Brendi, feels abandoned. “When do churches stop caring about people more than SUVs?” she said. (The Seattle Times)

It’s a grind. There a lot of indie coffee shops in Seattle, but not a lot that are run by people of color. Now that the city’s getting more expensive, some cafe owners are worried that it’ll get even harder for people of color to have a place in Seattle’s coffee culture. “Most people don’t think of African Americans as owning coffee shops,” said Brian Wells, the owner of Tougo Coffee in the Central District. Isolynn Dean, who owns Cortona Cafe, knows what he means.  Her customers often assume she just works at her cafe, and that one of her employees, a white man, owns the place. (South Seattle Emerald)

Cool it, Rainier. Mt. Rainier is just a mountain. But what if it was also kind of a jerk? Check out the very unofficial @MountRainierWA Twitter account and prepare to both laugh at and feel bad for the other mountains it picks on. Sorry, St. Helens. (Twitter)

Check out this guide to Seattle. The folks at Dirt Road Travels, who took over our Instagram account in August as part of a partnership with The Evergrey, visited a lot of local spots to create this guide to our city. Among their highlights: Salare, Golden Gardens, and us! (Dirt Road Travels)
