Your kids are going to miss the bus. That’s because Seattle’s 400 school bus drivers are on strike. They’ve been in talks with the district’s bus service contractor since June, and haven’t come to an agreement over health care and retirement plans. About 12,000 kiddos are going to need to find another way to school today, and possibly other days, too — unless their union and the bus service company make some quick progress. 🚌 (The Seattle Times)

How much do you need to make to afford a home here now? About $93,000. And a year ago? $82,000. That’s right: To keep up with mortgage payments on a median-priced home around Seattle over the last year, you would have needed an $11,000 raise. Yeesh. Thanks to reader Luna Snoqualmie for pointing us to this report. (The Seattle Times)

Someone found a snake in a toilet. Yup. In a Lake City apartment. “To find a snake in your toilet, to see it in there, legless and slithering below where you often plant your ass is enough to crack a good part of your mind permanently,” wrote The Stranger’s Charles Mudede. We’re wondering which is worse: A snake or a rat? (The Stranger)

Now’s your chance, foodie. Eater is taking your votes for 2017 Seattle Chef of the Year. Is it Edouardo Jordan of Junebaby? Bruce Naftaly of Marmite? Are we making you hungry? Polls close at 11 a.m. today, so if you’re into it, get on it. (Eater Seattle)
