It’s real hard to put into words how fun it felt to hang out with so many of you at our first anniversary party. It was an unforgettable night that packed a punch, and it feels like The Evergrey could run on the energy you brought for a whole ‘nother year.
And thanks to all the amazing people, partners, and sponsors who helped make last night one to remember (there’s a lot of you!): chef Justin Khanna, artist Haley Weaver, designer Ryan Polich, mixologist Andrew Bohrer, photographers Alex Farrell and Travis Monroe, maker Zachary Cohn, sponsors On Safari Foods, Dent, Proletariat Wine, Elysian Brewing, Molly Moon’s Ice Cream, and Puget Sound DJ, partners Yelp Seattle, Seattle Works, Crosscut, United Way Emerging Leaders, Armoire, Seattle Secret Shows, Seattle Goodwill, Pacific Science Center, and Sasquatch Books, volunteers Karen Anderson, Marika Malaea, Smriti Chandrashekar, Neville Strandberg, Erica McGillivray, and Susan Lieu, and, of course, our always gracious hosts at The Riveter.
We can’t thank all of you enough for joining us in this crazy experiment to keep us all more connected to our city. This past year’s been quite the ride. We can’t wait to see what’s next.
Let’s get housed. Our brand new mayor, Jenny Durkan, wants to get a move on affordable housing. We have the fastest-rising home prices in the country and our rental market isn’t cheap, either. So her first executive order is out to help locals who don’t make a lot find places they can rent more quickly. Let’s hope it works. (Curbed Seattle)
Read along with a Hawk. Michael Bennett is the defensive end for our Seattle Seahawks. He’s also got great taste in books. You’ll find everyone from Ta-Nehisi Coates and Howard Zinn to Martin Luther King Jr. in his reading list. “Another reason to be a proud Seahawks fan,” raved one fellow bookworm. Indeed. 📚 (Seattle Public Library)
Less awesome, more insane. That’s how food writer Bethany Jean Clement felt after trying Bulletproof Coffee — a famous coffee/lifestyle shop based in Bellevue that just opened its first cafe in Seattle. What’s so “insane” about Bulletproof? Its coffee is buttered, for one. Its baristas call themselves “coffee hackers.” And its array of supplements and whatnot promise to help you “tap into the unlimited power of being human.” Spoiler alert: Bethany’s not buying it. (The Seattle Times)
Quick — make friends with someone from Bellevue. People there have the third largest holiday gift budget in the whole country. It’s $2,367. And in Seattle? $1,323. 🎁 (MyNorthwest)
