‘You get it on video?’ People have been killing animals in our woods, illegally, for months. It’s one of the biggest poaching cases state investigators have ever seen, and they built their case off text messages and social media posts the hunters shared out. “Grisly photos and videos may have been the ultimate prize,” writes Evan Bush. It’s a harrowing story, and worth a read. (The Seattle Times)

Getting along with the neighbors. Talk to Washingtonians outside Seattle, and our city isn’t always their favorite. “We have an image problem and should find a way to fix it,” writes columnist Knute Berger. The issue? Seattle tends to contribute a lot of money to state coffers but also demands to be the star of every show. “We have a kind of arrogance and self-interest that is off-putting to the rest of the state,” as mayoral candidate Cary Moon put it. Knute’s solution? Our next mayor, he said, should appoint a Seattle ambassador to the rest of the state. Guess some diplomacy couldn’t hurt. 👋 (Crosscut)

‘Whatever you need to do outside, do it this weekend.’ It’s gonna be nice and sunny the next couple days, and then we’re gonna slip into that season Seattle is best known for — the rainy one. If you haven’t made that sweater-weather trip to the pumpkin patch, now’s your chance. ☀️ (The Seattle Times)

And speaking of pumpkin patches … Red Tricycle and Parent Map have lists of the best ones nearby for families. Plus Curbed Seattle mapped its top picks around Puget Sound, from as far north as Arlington and as far south as Buckley. 🎃
