Pioneer Square: A neighborhood to gather in downtown Seattle

From singing Sounders FC fight songs in Occidental Square Park before every match to enjoying the longest established art fair in the nation (since the early 1960s), or joining friends for an impromptu happy hour, Pioneer Square is where we gather as a community.

Established in 1852 as the heart of downtown Seattle, the Pioneer Square neighborhood has many diverse and deep stories to tell – so deep, that some are even underground.

Alliance for Pioneer Square’s mission is to preserve and promote the authentic vibe of the area. It supports the business development, advocacy, and marketing of Seattle’s original neighborhood so it can be a destination for years to come.

Uncovering the unique and inspiring stories of the neighborhood is also part of that work. So we’re partnering with the Alliance for Pioneer Square to do just that. Over the next few weeks we highlight the people, places, and history that give Pioneer Square that special feel.
