These 15 events will make your week in Seattle awesome

It’s football season, Design Fest time, and Seattle’s got plenty of events that’ll get you socially engaged and active in your community this week. Let’s do this. 🙌

MONDAY
Contemplate Seattle’s urban design. “What would a city designed with women in mind look like? How can urban planning address historic patterns of discrimination and segregation?” Listen to experts talk about who and what determined the way Seattle is built and designed. It’s part of the Seattle Design Festival that’s hosting other super cool events throughout the week. (Downtown)

Organize white people. This panel’s looking to connect the events in Charlottesville with our lives in Seattle and talk about ways white people can work to end white supremacy. (Columbia City)

TUESDAY
Engage with Mexico
. Listen to speakers like KEXP host William Meyers and Seattle city councilmember Lorena Gonzalez talk about the way Mexico and the U.S. relate and engage as part of the weeklong MEX AM Northwest Festival that runs September 10 to 17. (Pioneer Square)

Watch a mayoral debate. Tickets are sold out to see Cary and Jenny talk about homelessness and housing affordability, but you can still stream the debate online here. (Facebook)

WEDNESDAY
Raise money for Charleena’s family
. Charleena Lyles had four kids and one on the way when police officers shot and killed her in June. Local performers are holding a concert and all proceeds will go directly to her children. (Fremont)

Taste and judge ciders. It’s Washington Cider Week! Go taste a few ciders and cider cocktails from two PNW cideries, then cast your vote on who did it best. (Belltown)

THURSDAY
Bake bread
. With the Jewish high holidays coming up, here’s your chance to learn how to make your own Challah bread. (Queen Anne)

FRIDAY
Hang out in an outdoor living room
. Artists are installing a big public living room where people “living inside and outside” can connect and spend the day together. Why? Because “living room is quickly diminishing for all Seattleites.” (University District)

Dance around the world. Grab the fam for 15 minute “mini-lessons” on dances from lots of different cultures. Don’t forget to bring a dish to share with the other dancers! (Beacon Hill)

SATURDAY
Watch people fly through the air
. Performers with Emerald City Trapeze Arts are showing off their best moves and you get to watch them for free. (Downtown)

Appreciate the makings of makers. The Seattle Mini Maker Faire is bringing together makers of all stripes on Saturday and Sunday to show off and celebrate their work at MoPOP. Then just further south in SoDo, you can do some screenprinting while shopping handmade and reclaimed goods at the Second Use Fall Fest.

SUNDAY
Caffeinate in a galaxy far, far away
. Put on your best Star Wars costume and go to a Star Wars-themed tea party, complete with themed food and movie screenings. (South Lake Union)

Watch the Seahawks play the 49ers. It’s the first home game of the season, 12s. Alaska Airlines is hosting a pregame party, and — granted, it’ll cost you a cool $165 to sit way up high, but still — there are some tickets out there.
