Let’s get together
Maybe you’ve licked some wounds from the Seattle Freeze. Or you’re confronting our reputation for social frigidity right this second. Perhaps you’re one of the lucky ones: You’ve slipped the Freeze’s grasp (or think it’s a weirdo myth) and want to help your neighbors get a lot more 👋 and a lot less ❄️.
“The real questions,” reader Nicole Neoulias Gupte once wrote us, “are why does [the Freeze] exist and what can we do about it?”
We’ve got just the thing. It’s called Hack the Freeze, and here’s how it works:
- You show up to Flatiron School downtown this Friday evening.
- We team you up with fellow anti-Freezers to develop a fun, wild idea for a tool that could obliterate some local social barrier (absolutely no coding experience or interest required).
- You channel your hopes, fears, and creative juices toward a damn good cause while you meet new folks, fuel up with food and drink, and take a swipe at one of our city’s nastiest villains.

What’s a local event you went to recently that you loved?
Crafting Passions: Shrub-A-Dub-Dub was a super fun, hands-on event at The Works. We made our own shrub concoctions with fresh fruit and herbs.
What are you celebrating in your life right now?
Coming up on my one-year anniversary of moving to Seattle in August. Catching a peek of Mt. Rainier never ceases to wow me.
