🍽️ Help feed our neighbors in need

Let's get together

You may have heard about FareStart’s groundbreaking culinary training program, but did you know that the local nonprofit also delivers hundreds of meals to Seattle’s emergency and transitional housing facilities, each and every day?

This coming Saturday, July 27, we’ll be giving the FareStart crew a hand with meal prep and cleanup. The work will include basic kitchen tasks like peeling and chopping vegetables, and assembling lasagnas. No food handler’s card is required, but all volunteers must be 18 or older.

Our shift will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and volunteers should be comfortable standing for five hours. Lunch will be provided.

Space is limited, so head to our event page to grab your spot today. And if you miss out on this one, be sure to check out next month’s volunteer outing to the Recovery Cafe in South Lake Union.

Calling all morning people

Shout out to new members David K., Alan G., Elsa R., Ciana N., Alexander R., Sarah H. and Jeremy C.

Today we’re doing something a bit different and talking about our morning rituals. Here’s how team Evergrey greets the day:

⏰ “Wake up, make coffee, drink the whole french press. If it’s a bad day, repeat… And if it’s a good day, repeat.” —Haley Weaver, social media guru

⏰ “My dogs and I have something in common, breakfast is our favorite meal of the day. They get kibble. I get Cream of Wheat.” —Eric Keto, video producer

⏰ “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and the most delicious. So I start with Sea Wolf’s Seeded Sourdough toasted with avocado, egg, and Crystal hot sauce.” —Jordan Lyon, community engagement producer

⏰ “Waking up by 6 to get some early bird work in. Cheerios with strawberries or blueberries but preferably bananas if it isn’t fruit fly season. Waking up my son with a tickle attack. Brushing my daughter’s hair on her way out the door to summer camp, which is all kinds of fun.” —Mónica Guzmán, Evergrey co-founder

⏰ “Wake up at 5:45 with the baby. Drive to daycare at 7 with KEXP’s Morning Show (and the baby). Breakfast by 8: I go gluten-fairweather on an empty stomach, and I’m at Nielsen’s Pastries with the snitter.” —Ken Christensen, video director

⏰ “Roll out of bed, go for a quick run if I’m feeling energetic, move straight to coffee if not. Eat breakfast while listening to the local headlines on public radio … oh, and shower. Am I the only person on this team who showers?? Guess so.” —Caitlin Moran, Evergrey director
