🍎 How to help our local food banks

It's all about perspective. Want to see your photo here? Just use #theevergrey or tag us @the_evergrey on Instagram.

📌 Community bulletin board

🍎 Our city’s food banks are facing challenges as demand increases and social distancing makes daily operations more complicated. The best ways to help: Check out the Seattle Food Committee directory, and call ahead before making a delivery as some sites have stopped accepting drop-offs. Or consider donating money to organizations that supply our local food banks, like FareStart or Food Lifeline.

🍽️ Community kitchens continue to pop up around the city. A few efforts that recently came across our radar: the Seattle Community Kitchen Collective (a collaboration featuring several South Seattle chefs), Soup for the Soul at Sugar Hill, and the pay-what-you-can Fremont Family Meal from Revel.

🍞 Looking for work? Franz Bakery says it’s hiring for 150 open positions around the Northwest.

♻️ Local recycling pickup company Ridwell is partnering with Mary’s Place, Seattle Humane, and the Pike Market Food Bank & Senior Center to collect hand sanitizer, toilet paper, pet food, and other supplies.

☕ Coffee for a cause: Caffe Vita is now selling a We Got This Seattle blend, with $2 from each bag going toward Seattle Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund.

💻 Ready to roll up your sleeves and learn a new skill? Local SEO training company Moz is offering free online classes now through May 31.

🍺 Beer in a box: Move over, Bota. There’s a new boxed beverage in town, and Georgetown’s Machine House Brewery is offering free delivery for orders over $50.

One thing that makes Mondays better: prizes. Congrats to KaDeena Y. for winning two tickets to MoPOP, and to our grand prize winner, Alice R. We hope to see a photo from your Hot Tub Boat voyage, very soon. ⚓

Things are still topsy-turvy in our world, but today we’re getting back to a little bit of normalcy by resuming Monday member spotlights. Next up, from Green Lake, is Sydney Taylor

Where in town might people run into you?

People might run into me at my favorite coffee shops (MiiR or Stone Way Cafe in Fremont and Revolutions Coffee in Green Lake) or around Green Lake with my pup. We are surveying Seattle’s dog parks with our dog, who we’ve had for about a month!

What made you decide to become an Evergrey member?

I decided to become a member because I look forward to reading The Evergrey everyday, and like feeling connected to my community. I especially appreciate the “Things to Do” section, and reader photograph submissions.

What’s something you’re working on — in big ways or small — that you could use help with?

I recently started volunteering with The Surfrider Foundation‘s Seattle Chapter, and am looking forward to spreading the word with my friends and community when they have their next beach cleanup.

What are you celebrating in your life right now?

I’m getting excited about coastal rowing, and looking forward to racing at the World Rowing Coastal Championships next year!
