What Seattle is talking about

Protestors and police clashed in Capitol Hill again this week. It happened during a protest over the shooting of Jacob Blake—a 29-year-old unarmed Black man who was shot by police in Kenosha, Wis. on Sunday. The march started and ended at Cal Anderson Park; the police reported incidents of vandalism and fires along the route. (Capitol Hill Seattle Blog)

Challenging stereotypes on and around the ice. The Seattle Kraken hired the NHL’s first female full-time professional scout last winter, but their effort to bring more women to the table didn’t stop there. Currently, 15 of the team’s 32 managers are women and eight of 26 vice-presidents and senior vice-presidents for the team are women. (The Seattle Times)

Living with OCD during a global pandemic. KUOW reported on how people with obsessive-compulsive disorder have fared during the last few months. What they found was that while it has posed extra challenges, some feel uniquely prepared for the current situation since they’re so familiar with dealing with anxiety and worrying about bad things happening. (KUOW)

The Seattle Sounders make a pledge for social justice. The franchise published a letter outlining their beliefs about social justice and announced a couple of projects for the future. They intend to focus on increasing odd-year election turnout in 2021 and to open four new mini-pitches through RAVE Foundation to offer BIPOC youth a place to play. (Sounders FC)

Wolverines are back at Mount Rainier National Park. The bear-like animals had not been seen in the park for 100 years due to habitat loss, climate change, and predator trapping. Park officials say there’s no need to worry if you see one out on your hike, they aren’t a threat but you should share any sightings with the Cascade Wolverine Project or Cascades Carnivore Projects to help track them. One more thing...

Museums have gotten the green light to open back up in Washington state with a new set of guidelines. So even though it’s summer and being outside is the preferred choice of activities, there’s always a grey sky or two that you can look forward to. And now with museums opening back up in the next few weeks, you won’t have to waste a precious summer day cooped up at home anymore.

Alright, that’s it for today. See you all tomorrow! 👋
