What Seattle is talking about

A volunteer kitchen went to Kenosha,  Wis. to feed protestors only to be arrested. Riot Kitchen began a few months ago as a small mutual aid organization that fed those in CHOP. Eight volunteers headed to Kenosha to feed protestors, members of their group were arrested by officers from the Kenosha Police Department who concluded they were “preparing for criminal activity related to the civil unrest.” (Eater Seattle)

A new collective advocating for climate justice and Black lives held its first rally on Saturday. The rally took place at Jefferson Park where organizers and recent high school graduates spoke. Climate Justice for Black Lives is focused on centering the intersection of these two issues. Groups like Got Green and Black Collective Voice had people speak at the event which ended with a march to the Beacon Hill light rail station. (South Seattle Emerald)

Submit pieces of anti-racist art/graffiti around Seattle to a national database working to preserve pieces across the world. The Urban Art Mapping George Floyd & Anti-Racist Street Art database is compiling photos and documentation of stickers, murals, tags, and any other art created in response to police brutality and racial injustice. mages of protest art you find around the city can be submitted here. Recent vegetarian? Trying to cut back on meat? Check out these vegan “chicken” nuggets. Seattle-based startup Rebellyous foods offers a nugget made from a blend of wheat, soy, and other plant products. The folks over at GeekWire decided to do a taste test and see just how convincing the nuggets were as their meat-based inspiration. (GeekWire)

Check out new public art installations at the Central and East Ballard ship canal water quality sites. At 24th and Shilshole you can find a piece that pays tribute to the Mayan god of rain. And on 45th and 11th you’ll see an homage to Seattle’s maritime past. (MyBallard)

One more thing...

I’ll leave you today on a cautiously optimistic note. The Washington State Department of Health has reported that cases of COVID-19 have plateaued in King County, which is excellent news. But our numbers right now, which have declined, are still higher than what they were in late May and early June. All that to say…keep wearing a mask!

As always, be safe, stay healthy, and we will see you all tomorrow.
